Ultra-compact Ultra-Broadband Two-mode Transverse-electric Based SWG Multiplexer Demonstrated at 64 Gbps

We designed and experimentally demonstrated an ultra-compact ultra-broadband two-mode de-multiplexer based on a subwavelength grating (SWG) asymmetrical coupler (ADC) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. The device consists of cascaded strip waveguide tapered to multimode segment SWG-based single-mode waveguide. Tapering the in multi-segments guarantees high fabrication tolerance with wider wavelength range operation. parameters periodic structure are chosen meet Bragg condition phase-match TE1 mode These features produce faster evolution shorter coupling length only 8.5 µm entire division multiplexing (MDM) link (Mux Demux) 55 µm. MDM operates over wide range, covering S-, C-, L-bands. insertion loss (IL) crosstalk (CT) achieved at 1550 nm better than 1 dB -18 dB, respectively. also has low sensitivity deviations waveguide's parameters. Additionally, transmission performance is using non-return-to-zero (NRZ) on-off keying (OOK) modulation, where clear eye diagrams obtained 64 Gbps.
